Good news for those of you with a troupe of star-shaped sprogs following you down the mountain; several of the region’s resorts have been awarded the label Famille Plus Montagne, which means their set-up is proactively family-friendly.
Morzine, for example, provides a specific guidebook for families, which lists all the activities available for children, including ideas for when the weather closes in. The resort has a nursery for children aged three months to five years and another for three to 14 year olds (the Piou Piou club), where youngsters can learn to ski.
Meanwhile, Les Gets is home to a children-themed zone – The Grand Cry Territory. It’s a Native American village on the ski slopes, complete with a skiercross-style run that’s ideal for kids from five to 12 years of age.
And being a car-free ski-in/ski-out resort, Avoriaz is the ideal place for a family holiday. They also have a nursery for children (from three months to five years of age), as well as a ski kindergarten ski school for kids between the age of three and 16 years. Avoriaz is also the site of every aspiring freestyle skiers dream playground – The Stash (look at our Best for Freestyle section for more about this large expanse of delicious un-groomed snow), which will keep teenagers-too-cool-for-family-holidays from throwing a strop. And the big kids amongst you will love it to. That’s the families sorted, then.
