Grenade Summer Tour

Another whistlestop tour of transistions, mountains and beaches across the globe...

In the UK…

// If you’re after a Bataleon snowboard this winter then get your dibs in right now at the TSA. They’ve got stock at all the snow slope stores and at TSA Covent Garden.

// And if you’re after a set of skis then at Ellis Brigham this just in, “We have boots from Atomic in the warehouse so they'll be in the shops any day, this includes Hawx boots, M Series boots and also the brand-new Live Fit range including the new freestyle boot, the Overload. Atomic skis will include the Fall-Line all-mountain category winner 'Blackeye Ti' and favourites like the Cloud 9, the brand new Access, and the powder slaying Bent Chetler.
Salomon will be full of the usual top-selling Mission/Divine and Impact/Idol boots plus the new all-condition Quest boots. Skis will include the very special, and exclusive to EB, ProPipe - a top freestyle ski that really is amazing value for money at £450 with an STH 12 binding! We'll also be getting the new Sentinal, an all-mountain weapon that follows traditional construction techniques with its full woodcore, titanal sheets and sidewall construction.
The K2 selection will be wide and varied, including six different ladies skis, the Fall-Line award winning Silencer (a true bargain!) and a men's range that focuses on freeride, freestyle and all-mountain. Our Line range is tight but very sweet! With the Prophet 100, re-worked Blend and upgraded Sir Francis Bacon.
It'll be our biggest Volkl range for quite a few seasons, but the brand deserves it! Five very special ladies skis including another Fall-Line award winner, the 'Kenja', perennial favourites like the Gotama and Mantra, and back at EB, the AC range. We've also got a stunning ski for first-time buyers, the Sensor2, and the 'little-brother' to the Mantra, the Kendo."

// Scientists in Devon have come to the conclusion that resorts in the Alps are at risk from extreme flooding. Climate change poses a large risk to the regions as they seem to be warming up faster than lower lying regions.
A spokesman for the University of Exeter said: "Temperatures in the Alps have increased at double the global average temperature since the late 19th century and are predicted to rise by an average of 3-5C per decade in the next century."
In August 2005, heavy rainfall, flooding and sediment deposited downstream caused €555 million worth of damage to buildings, ralways, roads and industrial areas.

// As part of the Respect the Moutain Campaign walkers, skiers and recreational litter-pickers swept up a kalaiedescopic 50 bags of litter from the lush sides of CairnGorm Mountain.

Rider musings…

// Silvia Mittermueller joins Ride Snowboards

// UK Backcountry Snowboard Guru, Neil McNab joins the European ‘JONES Snowboards’ team! Neil was pretty stoked and had this to say, “I rode with Jeremy at the start of the last winter season whilst he was product testing the new ‘Jones Snowboards’ range. The whole range and the ethos behind it is dedicated to Freeriding and Backcountry big mountain riding, essentially the type of riding that I live for and I was proud to be offered a place on the team.Neil McNab
The boards are amazing, imagine strapping a board on your feet that is designed exactly for the type of riding that you want to do.
A board that can handle everything from powder to steeps, manoeuvrable in the narrows but super stable at high speeds, floaty in the powder but sharp and precise on the hard pack with plenty of pop in the tail, these boards are powder slashing machines made to rip the whole mountain apart!
For me this is the start of something great, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this to come along for quite some time. It fits in perfectly with everything that I do and everything that I want to do. I’m particularly excited about the possibilities that the new ‘Jones Solution Splitboard’ will open up over the next few years.
A splitboard that actually rides well, imagine the possibilities! It goes beyond anything you could previously imagine. All that amazing terrain out there, even here in the Alps where you’d think everything had been done the possibilities are endless!
I’ve already dedicated three weeks of my season to guiding Backcountry ‘Splitboard’ courses, plus I have a ‘Splitboard’ BC touring week and will be taking the Jones ‘Solution’ with me for this years BC expedition to the east coast of Greenland.
The rest of the winter I’ll be riding the Jones ‘Flagship’ a board designed in my dreams!
The Future starts here, bring it on!”
