// Scientists in Devon have come to the conclusion that resorts in the Alps are at risk from extreme flooding. Climate change poses a large risk to the regions as they seem to be warming up faster than lower lying regions.
A spokesman for the University of Exeter said: "Temperatures in the Alps have increased at double the global average temperature since the late 19th century and are predicted to rise by an average of 3-5C per decade in the next century."
In August 2005, heavy rainfall, flooding and sediment deposited downstream caused €555 million worth of damage to buildings, ralways, roads and industrial areas.

// As part of the Respect the Moutain Campaign walkers, skiers and recreational litter-pickers swept up a kalaiedescopic 50 bags of litter from the lush sides of CairnGorm Mountain.

// Tony Hawk’s in town. Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk and the Birdhouse team will be heading to Europe this summer for a skateboarding tour that include stops in the cities of Berlin (Ger), Rome/Ostia (Ita), Barcelona (Spa) and Brighton (UK). He’ll be stopping by Brighton on 21 July.

// Dates are out for Freestyle.ch – the northern hemisphere’s first comp of the winter. The annual event sees snowboarders, skaters and FMX riders hucking and crashing in the Autumn sunshine

// Jeremy Jones’ two-year Deeper project is ready for public broadcasting, it’s gonna be out in the Autumn and the official tour will be calling by Lonon on 29 & 30 Oct.

// UK Backcountry Snowboard Guru, Neil McNab joins the European ‘JONES Snowboards’ team! Neil was pretty stoked and had this to say, “I rode with Jeremy at the start of the last winter season whilst he was product testing the new ‘Jones Snowboards’ range. The whole range and the ethos behind it is dedicated to Freeriding and Backcountry big mountain riding, essentially the type of riding that I live for and I was proud to be offered a place on the team.
The boards are amazing, imagine strapping a board on your feet that is designed exactly for the type of riding that you want to do.
A board that can handle everything from powder to steeps, manoeuvrable in the narrows but super stable at high speeds, floaty in the powder but sharp and precise on the hard pack with plenty of pop in the tail, these boards are powder slashing machines made to rip the whole mountain apart!
For me this is the start of something great, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this to come along for quite some time. It fits in perfectly with everything that I do and everything that I want to do. I’m particularly excited about the possibilities that the new ‘Jones Solution Splitboard’ will open up over the next few years.
A splitboard that actually rides well, imagine the possibilities! It goes beyond anything you could previously imagine. All that amazing terrain out there, even here in the Alps where you’d think everything had been done the possibilities are endless!
I’ve already dedicated three weeks of my season to guiding Backcountry ‘Splitboard’ courses, plus I have a ‘Splitboard’ BC touring week and will be taking the Jones ‘Solution’ with me for this years BC expedition to the east coast of Greenland.
The rest of the winter I’ll be riding the Jones ‘Flagship’ a board designed in my dreams!

// The British Ski Team have been announced for the World Championships next year. The 30th edition of this event is to be held in Val D’Isére from 2-15 February.
The team is seven members strong and will include Chemmy Alcott, Alain Baxter, Noel Baxter, Andy Noble, Ed Drake, Dougie Crawford and David Ryding. The latter four are making their first appearance at the Championships.

// The Grenade team are going on a summer holiday around a bunch of European glaciers.
