Issue #100 - November 2011Fall-Line Skiing and Snowboarding magazine

Fall-Line Skiing & Snowboarding Magazine issue 100

We did it! Fall-Line has reached the ripe old age of 100. And like a fine wine that matures with time, we reckon our 100th issue is our best yet!

It's a celebration of skiing past and present so you can expect lots of pictures of lycra, skinny skis and neon. As well as looking at how and where Fall-Line first came about (in a kitchen in Chamonix), highlights include an interview with the legendary Glen Plake, plenty of inspirational features (from BC to Bolivia) as well as our much-anticipated Gear Of All Time awards. We also look at alternative snow sports that have evolved over the years (snake-gliss, anyone?), and freestyler Joe Tyler talks about the pros and cons of the halfpipe finally making it into the Olympics. It's going to be one to remember.

15 minutes with Glen Plake

He is a hero. The pioneer of extreme skiing, who, more than 20 years ago, became a legend amongst the ski-movie-watching masses for his anything-goes attitude, hot dogging and signature two-foot mohawk. He talks to us about how it all began, his induction into the Ski Hall of Fame and why he still loves his 2m skinnies. Awesome pictures of Plake in action too, from past and present!

Ultimate expeditions

They can take years to plan, and be over in a matter of days or even hours. But the rush can last a lifetime. In this issue we showcase five of the best ski adventures, chosen by five of the best British Mountain Guides. There's everything from a bear hunt (of sorts) in BC to glaciers and camels in Mongolia to the Arctic wastelands of Greenland. Get your gaffer tape at the ready...

You're going where?!

Multiple-day approaches, camping in wild, isolated spots and lines so high and so dramatic they leave you breathless – these you can expect when skiing in Bolivia. But saving a life? That’s something no one could ever foresee… Which is why David Rosenbarger's incredible account of a recent trip with fellow rider Giulia Monego and photographer Christian Pondella to the Cordillera Real in Bolivia will have you on the edge of your seat.

In search of powder in BC

Take one of British Columbia's most remote mountain lodges, throw in endless, skin-accessible glades and boulder-sized pillows, add a snowstorm and sub-zero temperatures and you get an experience that's like riding in a video game – everything goes and anything is possible. Which is exactly what Sakeus Bankson and photographer Garrett Grove discover on a recent trip to Sorcerer Lodge. Get you powder snorkel at the ready...

A local's guide to Mayrhofen

It has an ace up its sleeve: high, snowsure slopes that set it apart from its Tyrolean neighbours. And it’s home to one of the best terrain parks in Austria. We speak to freestyle pro Joe Tyler to get the lowdown of the best pistes, powders stashes and après-ski you don’t want to miss.

Gear of all time

It took a while, but we've picked our favourite skis, snowboards, boots, clothing and clobber from the last two decades.
