May in Whistler is pretty damn good

It's summer and the bears are getting peckish in Whistler

There was still some new snow about last week, so I took the opportunity to get probably the last hike of the season in and it was well worth the effort.

Whilst hiking I got a view of a huge kicker they have built for a private photo/ film shoot, which they do every year.

Whistler mountain has now closed but Blackcomb remains open until the end of the month, and it’s definitely the month of the rat… park rat that is of course. Most of the seasoniares have gone home now, so the mountain is pretty quiet, which means a lot of fun for those still around: sunshine, slush and two awesome parks with no crowds.

For the next month Whistler is like a normal village, which after having the Olympics here, it feels nice to have a quiet village and mountain for a while.

Whistler bike park opens tomorrow and next week they are holding a crud-to-mud competition, where you ski or snowboard down the mountain, then jump on a bike through the bike park; first one down wins, which should be fun.

Other activities on offer are rafting, Moto-X tracks, bike park, bear watching, hiking and lots more, so you really can’t get bored here, and if all you want to do is snowboard, it’s time to start looking forward to the amazing summer parks they have here on the glacier from June, if only I didn’t have to work!
