Christmas and New Year – a chalet girl’s perspective!

Partying in Plagne Bellecote!

So, here goes… I’m Vicki (Vixirome, snowboard-styleee if you please) and this is season ‘deux’ in France for me.

This winter I’m based in La Plagne 1800, which is a more quaint part of La Plagne, in my opinion, and as a seasonnaire, I’ll hopefully be writing weekly updates about my snowy expedition, the events that go on in this part of the world, what the resort is like, the weather, the après and, of course, the snowboarding!

Firstly, and most importantly, I’m a snowboarder. I started skiing on a school trip to Jasper, Canada, back in 2000, and this was when I discovered my love for extreme sports. Then I had an amazing first season in Courchevel for 2008/2009 and, well, I got the snow bug!

Having the opportunity to wake up every morning and open the curtains to see beautiful mountains is just an exceptional way to live. Then to be able to hit the slopes after serving breakfast is… well, amazing, and so I thought I best do another season.

Now, as far as Christmas and New Year goes, it doesn't radically feel as Christmassy and festive as it does back home in the UK, especially as I still had to clean guest rooms and bogs… and provide service with a smile for Christmas dinner... still, it’s a small sacrifice to make. And snowboarding on Christmas day with my new seasonnaire pals was epic, despite the cleaning.

The real celebrations started on New Year’s Eve and, as far as the big events, Plagne Bellcote hosted "La Nuit Du Pompon Rouge" – party on the piste style celebrations, including fireworks, a light show and back-to-back DJs with a mixture of electro and house beats. Needless to say, serving breakfast the next day was… savage! Since then, the weather has been pretty awesome, there have been a few dumps of snow over the last few weeks, but limited bluebird days so far, but they’re coming… and I’ve promised myself some New Year’s resolutions, practical ones mind, I want to master 360s, toe grabs, riding switch comfortably and getting some air – the mission continues!
