So I was lucky enough to head up Blackcomb glacier this week and find out for myself what all the hype is with the Camp of Champions.
The park is a mass of features, there is a choice of four lines (S, M, L, XL), plus a halfpipe, rail garden and two hips. What I loved about riding the park, was the atmosphere, which is relaxed and friendly, whilst still pushing your riding. All the people I got to meet on the T-bar, from coaches, campers and pro riders were super friendly, and having a lot of fun.
Every week the camp has different pro teams come in and do Send It Sessions, this week Burton, Clast and the Pirates were visiting. One of the sessions organised today was for the girl campers, on the medium hip, it was great fun and the girls were really pushing their riding. There are plenty of female campers of all levels, and the camp seems to offer a lot for everyone.
Over on the large hip, another session was going off, and very impressive to watch. The slushy conditions certainly make it easier to commit to going bigger. Most of the features in the park are an easy hike, so there tends to be sessions going on everywhere, which is great fun and a positive environment to step up a gear.
Overall a great day on Blackcomb; sun, slush and a whole pile of fun.
